Many families in Gettysburg struggle to eat healthy meals and snacks every day. Nearly 50% of all Gettysburg Area School District elementary students are eligible for the federal free and reduced lunch program. Many, but not all of these children don’t have consistent meals available to them on weekends when they are away from the daily breakfasts and lunches provided at school.
Ruth’s Harvest Gettysburg is a free ministry of area churches and organizations that provides healthy meals and snacks to food-insecure children. Backpacks of meals are provided to children in the Gettysburg Area School District on weekends.
Volunteer teams gather food weekly, fill backpacks, and the schools provide these to the children on Friday afternoon. After the weekend, children return the empty bags to the school and the process starts over.

The Ruth's Harvest website is currently undergoing renovations, so some features may be unavailable.
